Overview
Leadership is necessary in every field of work that a student may go on to pursue. As such, this major is flexible and responsive to different career objectives, pulling courses from 30 different departments.
While this presents a very exciting opportunity for students to create a curriculum catered to their interests and needs, it also presents a unique challenge.
How does one draw on the lessons from their history of leadership course, while in a sports management class? What does a class in philosophy have to do with military security? And, how can these liberal arts lessons help a student thrive in an internship or a career?
To meet this challenge, the Leadership Major includes one non-credit-bearing requirement: the portfolio.
Making a Portfolio
Upon declaring for the major, students will begin to create, collect, curate, and connect their academic experiences and engage in reflective writing through your ePortfolio.
ePortfolios can make learning visible, advance student success, and provide an opportunity for students to synthesize their learning across disciplines. They have the potential to bridge curricular fragmentation by holistically connecting students’ classes, skills, and experiential knowledge with a digital representation of their thinking (Conefrey & Smyth, 2020).
In addition to making crucial connections between your experiences and coursework, the portfolio will support career readiness, aiding in the development of personal leadership principles and a coherent narrative of your experiences to help build both your resumes and interview responses.
Ohio State’s ePortfolio service is powered by PebblePad. See what a PebblePad ePortfolio can look like by exploring exemplars from the PebblePad Community.
